North Lyndale Avenue – A Corridor with Character

Despite any outside perceptions, North Minneapolis is vibrant, thriving, connected, and no stranger to commerce and commercial districts, yesterday or today. This community has a long, storied history of entrepreneurship and community-built business corridors. From West Broadway, anchored by cultural landmarks like Swank Bar (formerly 4th Street Saloon), ZaRah Integrated Root Center and the Capri Theater, to Lowry Avenue, home to immigrant staples like Good Deal Oriental Foods and Antojitos Ryan S, alongside neighborhood anchors like New Rules, Tootie’s on Lowry, The Lowry Grill and Tap-In. These streets have always been where the community gathers, eats, shops, and builds together. Penn Avenue carries that same spirit, with everyday essentials at places like North End Hardware, Penn Food Mart, and Penn Gas Stop keeping neighbors close to home.

North Lyndale Avenue belongs in that same story. It’s a corridor with its own quiet, steady rhythm — small businesses mixed in with some larger operations, longtime neighbors, and everyday foot traffic that adds up to something bigger. The Northside Epicenter anchors a dense stretch of N Lyndale that’s home to a thriving corridor of businesses, including HEAL Minneapolis, Natural ME Apothecary, City Afrique and The Arthouse. Further down, The Camden Social injects new energy into a block that includes print giant Impact, well-known Hirschfield’s Paint Manufacturing, and a familiar favorite in McDonald’s. The Food Bank Eatery, Warning Lites MN, and Install This Awning and Sign are just a few of the additional businesses that round out the corridor.

Taste of Lyndale is our chance to celebrate it out loud: a day to shut down the street, open it up to the neighborhood, and remind everyone why this corridor matters.
